Karachi:
A 19-year-old Pakistani student who rose to fame after her five-second video went viral on social media in the subcontinent, hopes numerous renditions of her monologue will fuel greater dialogue between India and Pakistan.
The short video, filmed by Dananeer Mobeen in the Nathaigali Mountains of northern Pakistan and uploaded to Instagram, shows a group of teenagers having fun on the side of the road.
Ms. Mobeen swings around the device she is filming on, points at it and says in Urdu: “This is our car, this is us, and this is our party.”
Seemingly harmless, she intentionally mispronounces the word “party” as “Pavri“Making fun of South Asians adopting Western accents. It caught on instantly in both India and Pakistan, sparking hashtags on social media, and garnering millions of views and hundreds of spin-offs.
“It was the most random video. I had no initial intention of uploading it,” Ms. Mobeen said, expressing surprise at how viral it had gone and adding that the trend showed the power and reach of social media.
“”Pavri“Monologue replays have been used by the police in India and the Delhi Commission for Women in their social media campaigns.
In one video, two Indian soldiers stationed in snow-capped mountains do their own shoot of “This is us, this is our weapon, and we patrol here,” while popular Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone each made a version that also went viral.
Amul Dairy, known for bringing up trending themes in their ads, has created a “This is Our Pav-Tea” version.

Even politicians jumped on the bandwagon, and leaders used the catchy hook at public events and tweets.
“I feel honored and grateful for all the love across the border,” said Ms. Mobeen, expressing her happiness in cultivating a rare, friendly, cross-border dialogue.
Last week, India and Pakistan released a rare joint statement that they had agreed to maintain a ceasefire along the line of control after exchanging fires hundreds of times in the past few months.
Since the video went viral, Ms. Mobeen said she has been inundated with offers for acting and modeling, as well as requests for product recommendations. Instead, she aims to join the Pakistani foreign service.
