Exclusive! Toral Rasputra to play Amar Upadhyay’s first wife in MolkkiActress Toral Rasputra, who catapulted to fame as the new Anandi in Balika Vadhu, is all set to join the cast of Molkki, which features Priyal Mahajan and Amar Upadhyay. Toral, who was last seen in Jag Janani Maa Vaishno Devi – Kahani Mata Rani Ki, will play Saakshi, Amar’s first wife.
Talking about her character, she says, “My choice is always governed by the storyline and the character. I should have something to play with in the show. My character in Molkki is strong and interesting. Everyone has been waiting for Saakshi – Virendra’s first wife – since the inception of the show. Virendra was madly in love with Saakshi. There has always been a mention of her in the track, but she was assumed to be dead, which is not the case. She is back and wants to reunite with her family, her kids and her husband.”
The actress will play mother to two young children. However, that isn’t a bone of contention for her. What prompts her to take up a show is how her character impacts the storyline. “Till about a few years ago, I, too, wasn’t prepared to play an older character. However, it was during the shoot of Mere Sai – Shraddha Aur Saburi, that I realised that one’s screen age doesn’t really matter. My co-actor Abeer Soofi, who essayed Sai, called me Baiza Maa even though we were of the same age. With time, I have realised that the way you portray your character, live the emotion and connect with your co-actors is what’s most important. All these things help you to grow as an artiste. If I focus on playing only lead characters, how will I experiment as an artiste?” she says.
“When I joined the industry, the fad was to cast 18-year-olds in the lead role. Ek hi insaan kitne shows karega lead role mein? Besides, the audience also gets bored watching the same face on different shows. Aur aap kitna alag kar loge? You can’t do anything beyond what a lead is expected to do, as that’s how those roles are fleshed out. A protagonist on a TV show functions on a set template. I feel fortunate to have played different roles in my career. My journey in showbiz has enabled me to grow as an artiste. The most important show in my career would always be Balika Vadhu. I got to work with brilliant actors and learnt a lot from them. I became technically sound during that show. Whatever shows I did post that may not have given me the exposure I desired, but they helped me grow as an artiste,” she adds.
For Toral, a character’s depth is very important. She elaborates, “Today, the depth and intensity of the character I am playing is of paramount importance for me. Maybe, that’s why I don’t work on back-to-back shows. I am back on the small screen after almost a year. I wasn’t in a hurry to return to work and was patiently waiting for something good to come my way.”
